Mark Barber attended the University of Texas at Austin and Austin Community College and has been has been practicing Physical and Massage Therapy since 1984. His first 11 years of practice were at St. David’s Hospital, and he has been in private practice since 1995. Shortly after he began his career, he became interested in alternative healthcare disciplines, particularly in relation to musculoskeletal pain and structural biomechanics, because of the lack of results he was achieving with the traditional modalities of care.
In the mid to late 80’s through the early 90’s, he co-taught and assisted with continuing education classes with Hutchinson and Associates in Myofascial Release and Soft Tissue Mobilization. In 1992, Mark began studying Aston-Patterning® with it’s developer, Judith Aston, and became certified as an Aston-Patterning Practitioner in 1995. That same year he continued with the advanced Aston trainings in Arthro-Kinetics, and in 1996 he began the Aston faculty trainings. He has been teaching Aston-Patterning® classes, both locally in Austin and around the country, since 2000. Mark’s therapeutic approach is eclectic with Aston-Patterning® at the heart of his sessions, but Craniosacral Therapy® and Myofascial Release® and the many other disciplines he has studied and become certified in since 1985 are utilized to achieve the best possible outcome for his clients.
